Short version: you can use every lesson without an account, and then your progress stays in your own browser. If you sign in, we store your email, name and learning progress so they follow you across devices. We don't sell data, show ads, or use tracking or analytics cookies.
Without an account
- Your lesson progress, streak and Ship it drafts are saved in your browser's local storage. They never leave your device.
- The Ship it step runs Python inside your browser. Your code is not sent to us.
- To run that Python, your browser downloads it from jsDelivr, a public content network. Like any website, jsDelivr and our hosting providers receive your IP address and browser details when you load a page.
With an account
When you sign in, we collect:
- Account details: your email address and name, and the basic profile GitHub or Google shares if you sign in with them.
- Learning progress: which lessons you answered and whether correctly, attempts and time taken, your review schedule and mastery, your streak, and which projects you shipped.
- AI feedback: when you use "Say it back", the sentence you write is sent to Anthropic's Claude to grade it. We keep the grade and its length, not the text you wrote.
- When you first sign in, progress saved in that browser is copied into your account.
We use this only to run FDE Forge: to save your progress, schedule reviews, give feedback, and keep the service working and fair.
New-lesson emails
If you enter your email in the site footer, we store it (with the date) only to tell you when new lessons ship. It isn't linked to an account, and we don't share it. To be removed, write to hello@fdeforge.ai.
Who processes it
- Clerk handles sign-in and sets the cookies needed to keep you signed in.
- Anthropic grades "Say it back" answers.
- Our hosting and database providers run the website, the API and the database that stores your progress.
- Sentry receives error reports when something breaks, so we can fix it. Reports include the error and the page or address involved, but not your IP address, cookies, answers, code or emails.
Each provider handles data under its own privacy terms, only to provide its service to us.
Cookies
We use no advertising, tracking or analytics cookies. If you sign in, Clerk sets cookies that keep your session; they're needed for sign-in to work.
How long we keep it
We keep your account and progress until you delete your account. Deleting it removes your progress, reviews, ships and activity history from our database.
Your choices
- Delete your account at any time from your dashboard.
- Get a copy or correct your data by writing to hello@fdeforge.ai.
- Stay a guest: lessons work without an account, and you can clear your progress by clearing this site's data in your browser.
Children
FDE Forge is for working engineers and isn't meant for children under 16.
Changes
If we change what we collect, for example when WhatsApp reminders launch, we'll update this page and its date first. Questions: hello@fdeforge.ai.
